4 Things To Do in Anchorage

Updated: Apr 3, 2023

Alaska is a cold cold state, at least for me it is. I’m from Southern California, so anything below 73 degrees is cold to me. Stepping on soil in the summer is like California on a cold rainy day.

There are severals things you can do in Anchorage, Alaska.

Wild Life Conservation Center

It’s a little bit out of the way, but it’s so worth it. I booked it with a tour group because I was a solo traveler. I‘ver done something like that before so it was a very interesting experience. I met very interesting people, and had a great time, both on the tour bus and at the conservation center. Seeing the animals in real life and how big they are was very surreal.

Check out other post for my itinerary of Anchorage.

The bear photobombed my picture with the mountain.

This porcupine wouldn’t stay to take a picture. I have 3 more pics with it in different positions.

Ready, set, eat! The reindeers huddled up to eat some hay. What a life. Sleep, eat, pee. Rinse & repeat.

Visit the Chocolate Factory

Part of the tour is going to the chocolate factory. Where allllll different kinds of chocolates were sold. Plus, it‘s where I‘m glad that I will never see a bear in real life.

Go See Some Glaciers

It’s so beautiful. And it made me realize how small we are on this earth and how short our life span is. These glaciers have been around for hundreds and thousands of years.

I was in awe when I saw this, both by the view and by the temperature. It was FREEEEZING!!!!

We were lucky enough to have seal sighting as well as a whale sighting. According to the tour guide, it's rare to see whale while they're migrating.

Eat Local Food

Have you ever had reindeer meat?? You really can’t try reindeer meat anywhere else but Alaska. Although I couldn’t find reindeer steak anywhere, I was able to try reindeer hotdog and sausage, which was a blend of different types of fat (pork, beef, & chicken) along with the meat. I also had the freshest king crab and wild caught salmon.

I had some pizza from a pub called Moose & Tooth.

I went to a mini food festival that they had and ate a fried fish sandwich.

If I had a chance to go back to Alaska, I would definitely plan better. I would also go to Fairbanks instead, so I can see the Aurora Borealis and maybe sit in a natural hot spring.

Happy traveling!
