Dandruff is Bleh, But It's Possible To Keep It In Check!

Dandruff affects about 50 million people in the US and around $300 million is spent of trying to get rid of it. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I are part of the 50 million that spends WAY too much money on dandruff products. Dandruff is bleh, but it's possible to keep it in check! I, recently, found a brand called Vaadi Herbals that helps keep the dandruff to a minimum.

What is dandruff?

Dandruff is a common condition that causes the skin on the scalp to flake. It isn't contagious or serious. Dandruff is a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis (if you think you have seborrheic dermatitis, please check with your doctor.) Mild dandruff can be treated with a gentle daily shampoo, but symptoms do come back.

What are the symptoms of dandruff?

  • Skin flakes on your scalp, hair, eyebrows, beard or mustache, and shoulders

  • Itchy scalp

  • Scaly, crusty scalp

The signs and symptoms may be more severe if you're stressed, and they tend to flare in cold, dry seasons.

What causes dandruff?

  • Irritated skin

  • Oily skin

  • Dry skin

  • A yeast like fungus called malassezia that feeds on the oils of scalps

  • Sensitivity to hair care products

  • Other skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema

What can prevent dandruff?

Recently, I found a brand called Vaadi Herbals that helps keep the dandruff to a minimum. Vaadi Herbals is a brand that offers natural and herbal hair care products, including shampoos that can help combat dandruff. One of the product that my boyfriend and I are using is the lemon shampoo with tea tree extract. Here are some pros & cons of this product:

PROS:

  • It combats dandruff.

  • It smells nice.

  • It's an all natural shampoo.

  • No paraben.

  • No sulfate.

CONS:

  • Not a long-term solution.

  • Strips the natural oil from your hair (I use their olive oil with avocado extract conditioner to combat this issue).

  • Washing hair more often (which is not ideal for anyone with colored hair).

Overall, my boyfriend and I really like this shampoo and condition combo. It not only keeps the dandruff in check, our hair looks healthier and shinier at the same time.

Here are some tips to help fight dandruff:

1. Choose the right shampoo:

Honestly, many people are okay with using Head & Shoulders, but for some reason it doesn't work for me and recently it stopped working for my boyfriend as well. So, I decide to try Vaadi Herbals, and I'm liking the results so far. Choose a shampoo and conditioner that works for you hair type.

2. Use lukewarm water:

Using lukewarm water to wet your hair before using the shampoo helps because hot water can further dry out your scalp, which will make dandruff worse.

3. Apply the shampoo properly:

Use a quarter size shampoo amount and gently massage it into your scalp. If more is need then use more. Let is sit for a few minutes and then rinse it out with lukewarm water as well.

4. Use regularly:

Shampoo regularly is important when you have dandruff. I used to shampoo once a week when my dandruff wasn't as bad, but it got worse recently. So I started shampooing twice

a week and it has helped so much, but if you have severe dandruff then you should shampoo more frequently.

5. Follow up with conditioner:

Follow up with a conditioner, after shampoo, to keep your hair moisturized and healthy.

6. Maintain good hair hygiene:

Apart from using Vaadi Herbals shampoo, maintain good hair hygiene to prevent dandruff. Avoid sharing combs and hairbrushes, and wash your hair regularly. Also, avoid using too many styling products, which can irritate the scalp and worsen dandruff.

By following these tips and using anti-dandruff shampoo regularly, you can keep dandruff in check and enjoy healthy, dandruff-free hair.
